Kind, intelligent, and tactfully honest, Alaphondar is capable of bringing insight into most matters. Unburdened by worry for his position, the Sage Royal can coolly assess any situation, navigating the most difficult challenges analytically rather than passionately.
Alaphondar can be trusted to give frank, direct advice to newcomers at court regarding how to behave and the proper protocol for any particular situation. Failure to heed his advice prompts the Sage Royal to cease offering it.[citation needed]

Alaphondar had a magical stone that could summon the High Wizard Vangerdahast.[5]
History
In 1369 DR, during the abraxus affair, Alaphondar was disguised as a stooped, stout merchant with missing teeth. He assumed the name of "Flammos Galdekund", so that he and Queen Filfaeril Obarskyr could hide in Waterdeep until the plot against the crown could be resolved.[1]
