Balduran is a legendary seafaring explorer. He was the first native of Faerûn to set foot on the lands known as Anchorome and made the trek up to Sossal. He returned full of tales and vast wealth. He put forth a large sum of money to protect his sparsely-settled home harbor town. Then he set sail of Anchorome again and has never been seen again. His money was well spent on the wall though, and that small town soon grew into the city of Baldur's Gate.
Although he invested vast amounts of money into his home-town, it is rumoured that Before leaving for his second and final adventure, Balduran hid the rest of his fortune along with numerous relics in one of the many caves along the Sword Coast cliffs. These cliff's are known as the Sword's Teeth.[1]
The Flaming Fist took an expedition to Anchorome to discover the fate of Balduran. They encountered vast tribes of savage elves, that decimated the expedition.

In the game Baldur's Gate and Baldur's Gate: Tales of the Sword Coast, the player can find relics of Balduran. These include his helmet, cloak, sword, shield and butterknife.
The player can also explore the shipwreck that ended Balduran's final adventure and rescue Balduran's log book, from the shipwreck. This provides more information about his final journey, but is not canon. The log book identifies the name of Balduran's ship as the Wandering Eye.
