These ornamental stones were polished smooth and had a waxy feel making it ideal for "worry stones" or "soothe stones" that some merchants would rub or fondle to relieve stress during negotiations. Banded agate was also used ornamentally, or crushed to a powder and added to sleeping draughts to improve their effectiveness. No such improvement was ever proven however. A typical stone had a base value of 10 gp.
