The clank and rattle of chains announces the arrival of this creature. It appears human in shape and size, but chains wrap it like a shroud, every length ending in a hook or a blade or a heavy ball. The chains seems to slither and slide over the creature’s form, almost as if they were alive.
These chain-shrouded, infernal creatures , also called kytons, are often mistaken for undead, by those who liken them to the traditional shackle-rattling ghost, or confused with devils. Kytons are human-like devils, wrapped in chains instead of clothing. Chain devils speak Infernal and Common.
While they are counted among the infernal legions, they are not true devils, but the vile souls of sadomasochistic beings given power by the Hellish realms. Kytons roam the world and the planes beyond seeking others who they can torture with sadistic glee and debauchery.

Appearance
Edit
A kyton appears to be a humanoid form with deathly-pale skin. Its entire form is covered in chains that are spiked and barbed. The face of a kyton changes based on those who gaze upon it – the face of a slain loved one is all that is ever seen. Often, being confronted with this visage causes despair in those who witness it; leaving them vulnerable to the lethal assault of the kyton. A chain devil is 6 feet tall and weighs about 300 pounds, chains included.
Combat
Edit
A chain devil attacks by flailing away with the spiked chains that serve as its clothing, armor, and weapons. Chain devils savor fear and terror so much that they may stalk victims for hours, building dread and panic prior to attacking.
A chain devil’s natural weapons, as well as any weapons it wields, are treated as evil-aligned and, lawful aligned for the purpose of overcoming damage reduction.
- Dancing Chains: The most feared attack of the Kyton is its ability to control up to four chains within 20 feet, making them dance or move as it wishes. In addition it can dramatically lengthen these chains by up to 15 feet and cause them to sprout razor-edged barbs. These chains attack as effectively as the creature itself, acting as an extension of its will, rather than an object. If a chain is in the grasp of another, they can attempt to break the control over that chain by sheer force of will. If they succeed, the kyton can no longer attempt to control that particular chain again until a day has passed or the chain is no longer held by the one who wrested it from them.
- A chain devil can climb chains it controls at it's normal pace without a risk of falling.
- Unnerving Gaze: A chain devil can make its face resemble one of an opponent’s departed loved ones or bitter enemies. Those who fail to shake off the uncanny resemblance must force themselves to attack, hesitating before striking.
- Regeneration: Chain devils can be harmed by those that attack with silvered weapons, or those that are directly opposed to its core morality. Spells or other magical effects that have their roots in such moral systems are also harmful. However those that seek to slay this creature without taking such preparations will find that their magic and weapons bounce harmlessly off of its protective cocoon.
- A chain devil that loses a piece of its body regrows it within a matter of minutes. Holding the severed member against the stump enables it to reattach instantly.
- Skills: Kytons are extremely able at metalwork.
