Charm person was an enchantment spell that made the subject a friend of the caster.[15]

Charm Person was a common spell in the Realms.[16]

EffectEdit

The charm made a humanoid regard the caster as his or her trusted friend and ally. If the creature was being threatened or attacked by the caster or his or her allies, however, the creature was more likely to resist the effect of the spell.[17]

The spell did not enable the caster to control the charmed person as if he or she were an automaton, but he or she perceived the caster's words and actions in the most favourable way.[18] The caster could try to give the subject orders, but the subject was unlikely to do anything outside its normal behaviour pattern. A charmed person never obeyed suicidal or obviously harmful orders, but he or she might have taken an action resulting in death if it would will save the caster's life. Any act by the caster or its apparent allies that threatens the charmed person broke the spell. Note also that the caster must have been able to speak the person's language to communicate commands, or be able to communicate and be understood with gestures.[17]

The sundering version of the spell could target more creatures if used with a higher level.[19]

HistoryEdit

The Netherese arcanist Keonid was given the credit for the creation of this spell in -1855 DR.[1]

RealmsloreEdit

The arcane verbal component for this spell, in the Mulan spellcasting tradition[20] was Dothax Mylax Heeroz.[18]

ComponentsEdit

Only verbal and somatic components are needed.[19]
