The Chultan Peninsula was the dominant landmass of southwest Faerûn that held various humanoid realms and societies amid great jungles and peaks.[2][1]

Geography[]

The region was broadly made up of the lands west of Halruaa and Lapaliiya, including the Mhair Jungles, Black Jungles, and the great peninsula that stretched westward into the Trackless Sea that was made up of Samarach, Tashalar, Thindol and Chult,[2][1] and the former lands of the ancient yuan-ti realm of Serpentes.[5]

The Peninsula was separated from Calimshan by the Shining Sea, and in the Trackless and Shining Seas around the Peninsula were the large island nations of Lantan and Nimbral, as well as the smaller islands of the Whale's Flukes, Mother-of-Mists, Dawn Warrior, Beacon Rocks.[6]

After the events of the Spellplague the Chultan Peninsula became known as the Savage Coast as Chult, Samarach, and Thindol became a large island, and the rest of the landmass broke apart into the Mhair Archipelago and drowned.[7] Following the Second Sundering however, the land again rose from the sea to become a peninsula again.[8][9]

Regions[]

The peninsula contained four main areas:

Chult
The westernmost part of the Peninsula was dominated by its jungles, swamps, and mountains, and was home to a great many dinosaurs and stranger monsters. The human population largely lived in independent villages and city-states, with Ubtao and his aspects being the primary faith of the land.[2]
Samarach
The isolationist vassal kingdom of Nimbral was surrounded by mountain ranges, with the passes cloaked by powerful permanent illusions.[4]
Tashalar
Much of the northern coast was known as the Tashalar, a long, pleasant stretch of coastline that reached as far east as Lapaliiya. The locals typically avoided the unclaimed southern jungles and only rarely ventured into the neighboring Hazur Mountains to mine precious metals.[3]
Thindol
The middle of the peninsula was a vast stretch of grasslands between the mountains, seas, and jungles. The humans and dwarves of Thindol fought a long-running conflict against kuo-toa and yuan-ti from the Underdark.[4]
