The Dark Disaster, or the Killing Storms, was a tragedy in -10,500 DR that totally turned the territory of the elven kingdom of Miyeritar into a barren wasteland.[1]
History
In -11800 DR, the elven nation of Miyeritar was annexed by another elven nation called Aryvandaar and pacified by -11300 DR.[2] The Dark Disaster struck -10500 DR and killed many innocents, though a large number of Miyeritar’s original inhabitants already left for other places.[3]
Culprits
The Killing Storms weren’t a natural disaster but an artificial one. There seemed to be two potential culprits.
The first theory said that the high mages from Aryvandaar were the culprits. According to it, they assassinated Miyeritar’s high mages to drop the nation’s defences against the Killing Storms, which they caused for an unspecified reason to destroy their own territory which they have pacified by that time.[3][1] This theory was popular but, due to lack of evidence, completely unfounded.[4]
The second theory said that elven high mages on Miyeritar's side accidentally caused the disaster when they broke a taboo and tried to harness corrupt magic for resistance reasons.[5]
Effects
The Killing Storms reduced the entire forest and realm into barren wastelands in three months.[1]
Four decades of uneasy peace followed.[6][7]
