Death tyrants are a truly reprehensible undead form of beholders, similar to zombies, that retain some innate magical abilities. They are often used by powerful wizards as guardians; almost never being encountered near other beholders, who find them abhorrent. A death tyrant is a being of small power compared to true beholders.
