Dungeons & Dragons: Eye of the Beholder is a game available for the Game Boy Advance only. It is not the same as the classic computer game, Eye of the Beholder.
Plot[]
Years after Xanathar's defeat by the Heroes of Waterdeep, the city was plunged into chaos seeping up from the mega-dungeon of Undermountain once again. The Lords of Waterdeep became aware of rising unrest in the City of Splendors caused by an influx of thieves', assassins', kidnappers', and monsters' activities under cover of night. Waterdeep's City Watch was starting to be stretched on manpower and resources. The cause of the chaos was unknown, however, the hushed whispers of the name "Xanathar" were telling a tale of chaotic warring factions of Undermountain being gathered in a single alliance.[1]
The agents of the Lords' Alliance, placed a call to arms, attracting valorous heroes from Silverymoon, Neverwinter, and other cities from north Faerûn and the Western Heartlands. Piergeiron the Paladinson and his daughter Aleena Paladinstar handpicked a group of adventurers whom he watched training and growing within the open Lord's city and sent them on the dire mission of uncovering the truth behind the Xanathar's resurgence.[1]
The heroes were escorted to Waterdeep's sewers entrance, and their adventure began...[1]
Gameplay[]
The Game Boy Advance game is not a direct port of the original game. Only some features are very similar, such as the story. However, the combat system is much more like the older Pool of Radiance game, instead of first-person dungeon combat.[2]
The game essentially uses a stripped down version of the 3rd-edition D&D rules, instead of the 2nd-edition rules. It features only four classes (wizard, fighter, cleric, rogue), instead of the standard six (including ranger and paladin). However, the console game has an extra race to play, the half-orc. There can be up to six party members, meaning multiples of each class have to be taken.[2]
The game does, however, have 3rd-edition social interactions, such as diplomacy, which can be used when interacting with NPCs.[2]
