Earth elementals were extremely strong elementals who rarely left their home plane. Although they rarely spoke, when they did speak they used the Terran language.[3]

Earth elementals were often servants of the gnome and dwarf gods: Baervan Wildwanderer, Berronar Truesilver, Callarduran Smoothhands, Clangeddin Silverbeard, Deep Duerra, Dumathoin, Flandal Steelskin, Laduguer, and Segojan Earthcaller. Geb, Grumbar, Rillifane Rallathil, and Sheela Peryroyl also used earth elementals as divine servants.[4]
