Non-canon? Derivative work?[]

Isn't this essentially non-canon, since it's fan-created? It's very pretty, all the same! Part of me says “this is just a graphical representation of the words in the canon source” but another part is ringing a warning bell. Any thoughts? Also, are we still under “fair use” by editing a promotional (but still copyright) work? Fw190a8 22:28, 4 January 2009 (UTC)

I added it since the actual work isn't usable for the Realms, due to its core-specific cosmology. However, if there are objections, I will not stand in the way of its deletion. To me, it's a natural extension of cropping images for specificity (something done in several monster images here). I do understand, however, it's on iffy ground.
Frankly, I'd prefer there was a map like this for FR Realms cosmology that was official. This is guesswork based on, as you say, the text. I'm pretty sure it's almost entirely correct but at the same time, it'd be nice to have an official one.
If you'd like, I can send a buzz over to the people at WOTC and see what their objections/suggestions, if any, are. Niirfa-sa 23:27, 4 January 2009 (UTC)
Nice job on the image! I have no informed knowledge about the topic of whether it is derivative (though I'd guess it is). Ideally, we'd create our own 4E Cosmology image (like we've done elsewhere), but admittedly it wouldn't be as nice, and it will take time and effort for one of us to do so.  SkyeNiTessine (talk · contr) 04:05, 5 January 2009 (UTC)
I think it's a good idea for you to try and obtain permission for a derivative work because as SkyeNiTessine says, it would be nicer to have a version like yours instead of a totally original creation. Perhaps we can mark the image with something that states it's not canon but is fan-created based on canon sources? Fw190a8 07:15, 5 January 2009 (UTC)
