A halfling is a humanoid creature similar in shape to a human but around half the size. They stand around 3 feet (91cm) tall and weigh around 35 lbs (16kg). They get on well with most of the other races and are known for their curiosity and tendency to collect things.

Halflings are divided into three different race categories. The most common are "lightfoot" halflings. Lightfoots make up the majority of halfings, and are therefore referred to by the default term, "halfling". They take pleasure in travel and the experiences of exploration and meeting new people.

Second most common are "stronghearts". Strongheart halflings are more industrious and organized; more akin to dwarves in disposition than the more aloof Lightfoots.

The rarest of halflings are the reclusive "ghostwise". Ghostwise are feral and typically reside in forests, especially the warm southern forests of the Realms. This makes them akin to wild elves in temperment and disposition, and, like wild elves, rarely travel to large cities. Ghostwise settlements are tight-knit, with kinships and family bonds so tight outsiders often report that this subrace can sometimes seem to communicate to each other without speaking.
