The Knights of the North are a semi-secret group of adventurers and soldiers from the Moonsea who are dedicated to the destruction of the Zhentarim. Through various hit-and-run tactics and relative secrecy of their identities, the Knights disrupt Zhent trade and attempts to foil their plots and machinations at every turn.[1]

HistoryEdit

In 1355 DR, Zhentarim forces from Zhentil Keep attacked the then-united Moonsea forces of the Citadel of the Raven in an event which would shape the founding of the Knights of the North. While the main army of the Citadel, led by Galauntar Hawkhelm, were engaging a horde of orcs in battle, Zhent spies and wizards attacked the defenseless Citadel with poison and magic, claiming the fortress for their own. As the Citadel forces battled the horde, they were soon forced to retreat, returning to their home in which they were routed and shut out. With the orc horde approaching and the Zhentarim waiting at the Citadel, Galauntar took the remainder of his forces into the mountains and in hiding, though he would die from the wounds he received in battle.[2]

Driven by their hatred of the Zhentarim and their want of vengeance, these remaining forces began excursions against the Zhent forces. These tactics proved to be quite dangerous, as many members were killed and the wrath of the Zhentarim was incured upon the group. The Knights of the North worked slowly until the destruction of Zhentil Keep in 1368 DR. It was then that the Knights knew that simple raids were no longer the answer. As a result the Knights have flourished, their numbers increasing and activities expanding.[2]

MembershipEdit

The members of the Knights of the North come from all walks of life. Though it was previously forbidden, even those with a loose affiliation with Zhentil Keep are recruited to the Knights' ranks.[3] Due to the constant strain of the lifestyle they lead, as well as constantly having to manage the level of attention brought on themselves, members of the Knights of the North often go in hiding or off to distant adventures while still maintaining membership within the organization's ranks. It is because of these hardships that the members of the group have to maintain flexibility in their lives.[4]
