The Lionshield Coster , also called the Lionshields, was a merchant company based in the fortified city of Yartar, that operated throughout the greater Dessarin Valley during the 15th century DR.[1][2]

The merchant company's symbol was a image of a lion's head placed upon a wooden or metal shield. In some instances the lion was colored blue, while in others it was emblazoned over a blue background.[1][2]

Bases of Operation[]

The merchant company were able to ship finished goods, such as supplies of armor and weapons, to small settlements and towns all throughout the northwestern region of Faerûn.[2]

One such settlement was the newly settled frontier town of Phandalin near the Triboar Trail and the Sword Mountains. The town's trading post was overseen by Linene Graywind.[2] The organization also had a trading post in Nightstone, run by Darthag Ulgar,[3] and a store called the Lion's Share in Triboar, managed by Narth Tezrin and Alaestra Ulgar.[1]

History[]

Some time during the late 15th century, the trading post in Nightstone was sacked by a band of goblin led by Boss Hark after the town itself was devastated by a cloud giant.[4]

In the Year of the Scarlet Witch, 1491 DR,[note 1] incoming shipments to the Phandalin post were not received, indicating that bandit activity in the area had seized the goods. Linene Graywind mistakenly believe these raids were caused by the Redbrands bandits and refused to sell them weapons. The missing shipments were actually caused by goblins from the Cragmaw tribe.[2]

Notes[]

  1. Pages 30‒31 of Lost Mine of Phandelver describe the eruption of Mount Hotenow (1451 DR) as occurring "30 years ago", which would place the adventure in 1481 DR. When the adventure was later remade into Phandelver and Below: The Shattered Obelisk, this 30 year time frame was kept (pages 50 & 53). However, pages 103 and 179 of Acquisitions Incorporated, a source published after the former, state that the events described in the adventure happen five years after both Lost Mine of Phandelver and Princes of the Apocalypse. Since the latter is explicitly set in 1491 DR, and considering this answer by Ed Greenwood about dating the adventure, this wiki will use 1491 DR for events related to both versions of the adventure.
