Runestone dwarf
Dethek was a runic script used by dwarves and a few other humanoid races to record language, usually by engraving stone or fine metal. Its runes were constructed from straight lines for easier carving in hard surfaces. There were runes for letters and numbers, as well as ideograms for certain ideas and concepts, but Dethek lacked punctuation.

The Dethek alphabet was transliterated like so:

Dethek alphabet

The use of runes for writing dated back to the beginning of recorded history in Faerûn. One example of the spread of Dethek use was between the gold dwarves of the Great Rift and the people of Unther. Close association and trade led to the adoption of Dethek for recording the Untheric language. The Dethek system of writing went on to become the most widespread and popular runic script by the 14th century DR.

Ad&d gateway to the sf
Gateway to the Savage Frontier is a Dungeons and Dragons computer game developed by Stormfront Studios and published by Strategic Simulations, Inc. The title was the first game to take place in the Savage Frontier region and was the #1 selling MSDOS game in North America in August 1991. The improved Gold Box game engine was utilized, which was later used to create the first ever graphical MMO.

The players find themselves in the middle of the Zhentarim's plot to send monstrous armies across the Anauroch desert. In order to achieve this, the Zhentarim attempt to locate four ancient statuettes that repel monsters from all directions. However, the players have the opportunity to find the ring of reversal and put an end to the Zhentarim's plans.

Did you know...

  • The Triton Protectorates was a trio of triton city-states in the Sea of Fallen Stars: Ahlorsath, Pumanath, and Vuuvaxath. The Protectorates were often thought of as a collective unit by outsiders, but were actually completely independent entities—albeit with similar government, religion, and demographics.
  • The Golden Lodge was a temple to Waukeen, the Mistress of Coin, in Lonelywood, one of the Ten Towns of Icewind Dale. Its clergy, led by Quinn Silverfinger, worked to aid and promote businesses in the area and encourage trade, all the while providing all the regular services of a temple.
  • Jhaax Dolbruin was a ranger and adventurer until he had his career—and his left hand—cut short by a vorpal blade-wielding thief. He wound up working as a bartender in the Yawning Portal, where he pined for Durnan's daughter Tamsil despite her being half his age.
  • Gariskar Dauntinghorn was a nobleman of Cormyr who somewhat resembled an old sea lion. One of his rivals, Marlin Stormserpent, once paid an artist to follow Gariskar around and paint his portrait, which would then help two blueflame ghosts identify and kill Gariskar.
  • A sohar was a type of ship commonly used in Calimshan to ship goods. On average, these ships were up to 90 feet long with a tonnage of 100 tons, roughly comparable to a cog, though sohars were much faster and more maneuverable.
  • A tome of the north wind was a magic book that held the power of elemental ice, causing it to always be coated in a thin layer of frost. A wizard's primary use for such a tome, aside from serving as a spellbook, was to empower any ice magic channeled through it.
  • Awaken sin was a spell used by Silverhair Knights of Eilistraee that confronted evildoers, particularly drow, with the consequences of their malevolent actions in a stark and somewhat disconcerting manner, causing them to experience overwhelming psychological distress.

Hear ye, hear ye! Quiet in back! The Heralds of Faerûn hereby announce that, to celebrate the upcoming release of the Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor video game, the Shadow of Mordor Wikia has issued formal challenges to the wikis of the cosmos, pitting their champions in head-to-head contests of popularity and strength of arms. The Forgotten Realms Wiki has accepted this challenge as a test of honor.

Drizzt Do'Urden, much-loved renegade drow ranger and master of dual scimitars, of some 26 years' fame, is now facing Talion, the risen Ranger of Gondor and skilled swordsman, at yet untested.

Let it also be known that our sister wiki, the Baldur's Gate Wiki has also accepted a challenge, and that Viconia DeVir, drow priestess of Shar, is facing Galadriel, the elven Lady of Lórien.

Show your support and click your acclaim for your favorite heroes. We're sure ye'll choose wisely.

We're pleased to announce that the ranger of Icewind Dale has a clear lead over the Ranger of Gondor.
