Melee Magthere is the college of fighters in Menzoberranzan.[2] It is one of the three schools that noble children of the drow are expected to attend. Graduates of the academy do not hold as high a prestige as those who graduate from the wizard or clerics school but still hold a greater distinction than those who are normal citizenry. One of the events of training there is the Grand Melee, in which Drizzt Do'Urden was the victor seven years running, 3 times against older more advanced students. It is a relatively plain compound when compared to the other schools of The Drow Acadaemy. It is basically a pyramid that consists of the utensils and fighting arenas needed to learn the art of melee combat. The students of Melee Magthere spend their first fifty days listening to tales that are mostly lies regarding how the elves of the surface world mistreated the Drow, then about 8 years in combat tactics, followed by a year of rounding out their education in Sorcere and Arach-Tinilith.
