Nergal was the Untheric deity of destruction, pestilence, the harsh aspects of the sun and also presided over the realm of the dead^{[citation needed]}. He was killed during the Orcgate Wars.

Nergal was also a powerful outcast devil in Avernus that attempted to steal Mystra's secrets from Elminster by visiting horrendous suffering on his physical body all the while stealing memories using a mental link.^{[citation needed]}
