Nether the Elder (later King Nether) was the shaman king of Gers, one of the seven towns whose coalition formed Netheril. Although the coalition was originally named "Seventon", it was renamed soon after by Nether, who assumed a tyrannical and egotistical rule.^[1]

Nether was credited with developing the calendar that began measurement at the beginning of the coalition, and was referred to as Netheril years, or NY.^[1]

Nether was assassinated by a poisoned dirk, although the assassin still remains a mystery, and he was succeeded by Nether the Younger.^[1]
