Nether the Elder (later King Nether) was the shaman king of Gers, one of the seven towns whose coalition formed Netheril. Although the coalition was originally named "Seventon", it was renamed soon after by Nether, who assumed a tyrannical and egotistical rule.^[1]

Nether was credited with developing the calendar that began measurement at the beginning of the coalition, and was referred to as Netheril years, or NY.^[1]

Nether the Elder was born in -3889 DR in Gers of the soon-to-be Seventon. He became the shaman king of Gers sometime before forming the Alliance of Seventon and creating Nether's Calendar to celebrate the formation of the coalition.^{[citation needed]}

[edit] Death

Nether was assassinated by a poisoned dirk, although the assassin still remains a mystery, and he was succeeded by Nether the Younger.^[1]
