When Shou immigrants first began traveling west from the lands of Kara-Tur to settle in Thesk and other lands of the west, they brought with them the secret society of yakuza known as the Nine Golden Swords. Their leader was known as the Golden Master, headquartered in the city of Phsant.[citation needed]

The Swords had a small organization in the Shou enclave of Xiousing in Marsember. They possessed three of the fabled nine Golden Blades and hoped to claim Duc-Sum Li's blade when he died.[1]

The Nine Golden Swords' Westgate guild was employed as agents by the exiled eladrin Caelynna.[2]
