Shajar lived on the island of Kaff in the Djinni's Claws in 1367 DR.[note 1][1]

Shajar possessed a rare combination of beauty that matched her wondrous spirit.[1]

Shajar was the slave of Alim Baybars and Melisende Baybars.[1]

She was the daughter of a desert chieftain who taught her some skill with a blade. She was suited to rule her father's tribe, but Fate had other plans. She was captured by slavers and sold to the sultan of the Pearl Coast where she lived in his harim. She was eventually sold to a prince on the island of Harab but the ship carrying her was attacked en route by corsairs. The corsairs were then attacked by the ghoul pirates of Kaff and she was taken to Alim Baybars.[1]
