A shawm[4] or shaum[1] was a double-reed instrument similar to an oboe.[1] It was available for purchase through Aurora's Whole Realms Catalogue.[3]
Description[]
Its sound was loud, shrill and buzzing.[4] If played well, the sound of a shawm was clear and melancholic, reminiscent of migrating geese.[3]
Shawms were common among gnomes of Faerûn,[1] who had developed versions of shawms powered by bellows.[5] They were also used in Zakhara.[4]
Notable Users[]
- The Bendekar's Mercantile storehouse in Ravens Bluff had a variety of shawms in their instruments collection.[6]
