Slow (originally Quantoul's slowmorph[1]) was a transmutation spell used by arcane spellcasters that caused one or more targets to move more slowly.[3] Some creatures, such as stone golems[8] and mindwitnesses,[9] had innate magical abilities that mimicked this spell. Ocular adepts, humanoid servants of the Great Mother, the beholder goddess, also had the power of slow.[10]

Effects

One or more creatures within close range both from the caster and each other were magically made slower in their actions and reflexes. Targets with high strength of will could resist the effects of the spell, which otherwise lasted for about a third of a minute or longer.[3]

Several spells countered or negated the effects of this spell, including haste,[11] freedom,[12] freedom of movement,[12] and remove paralysis.[13]

Components

The spell required verbal and somatic components and a drop of molasses.[3]

History

The spell was invented by prolific Netherese arcanist Quantoul in −2026 DR (1833 NY).[14] It was also recorded in the Book of Bats.[15]
