Sothillis, or Sythillis, was an ogre mage who attacked the southern cities of Amn in West Faerûn.[2]

History

In 1370 DR, Sythillis along with Cyrvisnea, led an army of goblins, kobolds, ogres, hill giants and worshipers of Cyric in attacks upon southern Amn.[2] At the end of their campaign, they assaulted the city of Murann and captured gold from Maztica.[2] Their army numbered almost 3,000 soldiers.[3] As of 1374 DR, the force still inhabited the city.[2]

Personality

While he is a renowned leader, Sothillis is greatly feared for his cruel actions.[3]

Description

With mottled green skin and jet black hair, Sythillis is a giant among even the ogre magi, standing just under 16 feet (4.8m) tall and weighing nearly two tons.[1] His short, red horns are encircled in mithral-laced arcane runes.[4]

Equipment

Among Sothillis' possessions are Kingscar, Blue lightning, a medallion of thoughts and a ring of evasion.[4]

Appearances

Games

In Baldur's Gate 1 a letter from the Iron Throne leader Rieltar to Davaeorn references the "Sythillisian uprising" in Amn as a reason why Amn will not act to stop the Iron Crisis.[5]

In Baldur's Gate 2, a player can be rewarded with a shield from Madulf, (for brokering an alliance between Madulf's group and the people of Imnesvale,) who claims it is from Sythillis' army.

According to a tavern rumor, Sothillis was also a Bhaalspawn whom was killed by a fire giant (presumably Yaga-Shura).[6] Obviously, this is non-canonical as Sothillis is still active well into 1374 DR.

Notes

Referential Discrepancies

FRCS lists this character as being named Sythillis, with his empire being referred to as the Sythillisian Empire.[2] In the Power of Faerûn, the sourcebook calls him Sothillis and makes reference to the Sothillisian Empire.[7]
