Sourdough was a type of bread from the Pirate Isles,[1][2] and other coastal sites around the Sea of Fallen Stars.[3] It was available for purchase in Faerûn through Aurora's Whole Realms Catalogue.[1][2]

Description[]

Sourdough was made by setting aside part of a previous batch of dough to leaven the next batch. The resulting bread had a heavy consistency and a hard crust.[1]

A loaf of sourdough could also be hollowed out and used as a bowl in feasts.[1]

History[]

Sourdough bread originated in the Pirate Isles but rapidly gained popularity in the Sword Coast and the Western Heartlands in the 15th century DR.[2] As of that time, the town of Ayakar in Turmish had become famous for its sourdough production.[3]
