Cadderly Bonaduce built the temple to Deneir high in the Snowflake Mountains, it cost him a lot as the magics used drained him and aged him remarkably, but once it was finished, though he thought he might die in doing so, Deneir reversed the aging process so that he would go back to his natural age over time. The closest city to the temple is that of Carradoon, with a large lake and a fair sized fishing fleet.

Inhabitants

Cadderly Bonaduce, the priest of the temple, his wife Danica, their three children (twins and their younger sibling)[1] and the dwarven brothers Pikel and Ivan Bouldershoulder.[2] As the only survivor of the fall of the Edificant Library, Brother Chaunticleer also lives at the Spirit Soaring.[3]

The Cathedral

The building turned out as majestic as Cadderly has always envisioned it, with soaring towers and flying buttresses, great windows of colored glass and a gutter system finished at every corner with an exotic gargoyle. The cathedral's main roof being at more than a hundred feet from the ground and three of the towers reaching even more than twice that height. The stone is gray and brown, as if the roots of the cathedral were of the mountain itself. A grove of trees lines a cobblestonee walkway that leads to massive front doors. The cathedral is surrounded by a thick and rich lawn, bordered by perfectly-shaped hedgerows and filled with various flower beds and adorned with several bushes shaped into the likeness of various woodland animals.[4] Pikel even created a hedgerow maze - himself getting lost there more often than any other.[1]

It has a special room for calling creatures from the Abyss, as Cadderly does with Drizzt watching. Unfortunately, it actually frees Errtu, allowing him to come back to Faerûn because of Drizzt's presence and knowing what Cadderly is about to do.

Fourth Edition

It is hinted in the RA Salvatore novel The Orc King that Spirit Soaring is destroyed during the Spellplague. Drizzt states in discussing the events of the prior one hundred years: "I have watched the greatest cathedral in the world burn and collapse." It is also revealed in the new 4th edition materials that the god of Spirit Soaring, Deneir, is Vanished. The Forgotten Realms Campaign Setting in 4.0 lists Spirit Soaring as home to an unknown threat and that those who enter are rarely seen again.

Ghost King

In Ra Salvatore's novel "The Ghost King" the Spirit Soaring is destroyed after a battle with the Ghost King, a combination of the dragon Hephaestus, the crystal shard and earlier the illithid Yharaskrik. The Ghost King latter is defeated by Cadderly and then retreats to the Shadowfell were he now bound to by a ward placed around the ruined Spirit Soaring, which Cadderly must walk for eternity to insure the ward stay in place
