Guys this explanation is way too simple and quite incorrect too.
Shadar-kai are from the plane of shadows and they're fey. Ghosts are from the ethereal plane and they're undeads, and Abyssal Ghouls are undeads too. The Far Realms are home to many aberrations.

- The statement is from an official source, and thus is as correct as one can get.
- I also think that you are confusing "type", which is an out-of-universe term, with other in-universe classifications. Within the universe of the Forgotten Realms, a human on the Prime Material plane would call a shadar-kai a "fey outsider". In is only in the world of the rules that we have to assign a single type to a creature. Likewise, giants are humanoids, yet in the rules of v.3.5, they only get the giant type. They get other types in other editions. None of that changes the fact that they are humanoids.
