A toad (or frog—the terms were more or less interchangeable[3]) was any of a number of species of amphibians characterized by dry, leathery skin (usually pink and orange-colored), short legs, and snout-like parotoid glands.[citation needed]
Locations
Toads were found in the Calim Desert,[4] the Great Swamp of Rethild[5], and at Toad Knoll in Shadowdale.[6]
Ecology
Toads could serve as familiars to mages.[7]
Frogs were eaten in many regional dishes, such as brassla.[8][9]
In culture
Geographical locations were sometimes named after toads, such as Toad Knoll[6] and Toadsquat Mountains.[10]

- Archer frog
- A mottled green and brown variety of the giant frog.[11]
- Fire toad
- Toads found in the Raurin desert.[citation needed]
- Ghoul frog
- A creature with translucent skin and large, black pupils.[12]
- Giant toad
- A giant variety of toad.[13]
- Ice toad
- A toad that lived in cold climates, such as the High Ice.[14]
- Leech toad
- A black nocturnal toad with bright red eyes.[15]
- Neotropical toad
- A toad with horizontal pupils and poison glands behind the eyes.[16]
- Spined toad
- A toad that looked like a cross between a giant toad and a hedgehog.[17]
History
The wizard Dhaerivus was once turned into a toad at a magefair.[18]
In 1358 DR, the wizard Regweld Harpell was experimenting with merging horses and frogs. He named his first "success" Puddlejumper.[19]
