Template:Magic item

"It was forged in the magic of the powers that all the surface elves hold dear," said Malchor. "Of the stars and the moon and the mysteries of their souls. You deserve it, Drizzt Do'Urden, and it will serve you well."

Twinkle was Drizzt Do'Urden's left-handed defensive scimitar forged by the elves of old.[1]

Description

Like all magical weapons, this +2 defending scimitar had an enchantment that made the blade sharper and the weapon more likely to strike true. This enchantment could be diverted in order to make the wielder better at parrying an opponent's blow. Twinkle had a star-cut azure sapphire on its pommel and when it detected danger nearby it softly glowed blue.[2] It was partially empathic and could impart weak, base emotions upon its wielder.[3]

History

The blade was given to Drizzt by Malchor Harpell in 1356 DR, when the Companions of the Hall were chasing Artemis Entreri after he had kidnapped Regis.[1]

In Archmage, the sword is broken, and then repaired, but without the strong magic it formerly had. Later on, Catti-brie would combine the blade with another sword by using the Great Forge of Gauntlgrym. With the help of the Primordial guiding her, the act not only restored much of blade's former ability but also greatly improve its cutting edge and defensive power as well. Drizzt noted that the new blade had become superior to the original Twinkle after wielding it in mock combat.

Notes

According to Dungeons & Dragons 2nd edition rules, Twinkle is a defender +5 scimitar, but in Dungeons & Dragons 3rd Edition, the blade was a +2 defending scimitar.[4] The defending property has, however, not been revealed as accurate in Salvatore's writings.[citation needed]
