Vierna Do'Urden, a priestess of the spider deity Lolth[1], was charged with taking care of young Drizzt Do'Urden. She is the second daughter of Matron Malice, sired by Zaknafein Do'Urden.

Vierna was the full-blood sister of Drizzt, born by Matron Malice from her relationship with Zaknefein. Out of reluctance, she took the task given by her mother in educating and tending the young Drizzt during his early years serving as the page-prince of the House Do'Urden.
Because of their accepted and harsh practices, she had to use violence -- as part of her motivation -- in insisting in the mind of young Drizzt the unquestionable respect, obedience, and reverence to their Matron Mother as part of the drow society's demand from males.
She was adopted by Matron Baenre after her house was destroyed.[citation needed] When she joined the forces of Jarlaxle[2], with her half-brother Dinin, she bore an obsession with killing her only full-blood brother, Drizzt; however, she was killed by him instead in 1357 DR[3]. In those few seconds in which she was still alive, with a scimitar plunged in her chest, she left Lolth, and the part that was good was freed and Vierna eagerly accepted her fate.[4]
