Xantharl's Keep was a fortified village south of Mirabar. As of 1370 DR, it was home to a population of 475. It was known for its tall stone houses with steep roofs.[1]

GovernmentEdit

Some time after the War for the Silver Marches, the Lord of Xantharl's Keep was Narbeck Horn, who reported to the marchion of Mirabar. Narbeck had a sending stone that allowed him to speak to the marchion directly, ensuring that news of any threat to Mirabar from the south was quickly relayed.[2]

DefensesEdit

An outer wall with heavy crossbows mounted to its battlements enclosed a keep sheltered by a steep roof to shed snow. Some time after the War for the Silver Marches, the keep held a garrison of one hundred fifty veterans, which was over twice the population of the village itself at the time.[2]

HistoryEdit

Some time after the War for the Silver Marches, the Frost giant Kaltivar laid siege to the keep with a small army of goblins, hobgoblins, and ogres equipped with goblin-huckers. The giant used the siege as a ruse while he sent a gang of Bugbears to find and capture the wanted Shield dwarf criminal Worvil Forkbeard, who was hiding in The Falling Orc inn under the pretense of being a coin-less adventurer.[2]

Notable locationsEdit

  • The Bear and Black Buckler: An inn, the only notable feature of which was the bear pelt covers on the beds.
  • The Falling Orc: A smoky tavern haunted by the ghost of an elegant lady searching for a lost treasure. Some time after the War for the Silver Marches, the proprietor was the hulking yet friendly Half-ogre Arzastra.[2]
