Xingax was a mighty, undead creature[1] from the Abyss.

Appearance

Xingax looked like an oversized, freakishly deformed stillborn or aborted fetus - the pure ugliness[2] with asymmetrical features[3]. He had small rotting fingers at twisted stubby arms[1]. A frayed, greasy length of umbilicus dangled from his belly.[4] Xingax was shortsighted - an array of lenses poised on swiveling steel arms[1] moved in front of his eye enhanced his sight mechanically.

He emanated an aura of malign energy,[2] which led people not shielding themselves from it to vomiting, blinding headaches and collapsing in convulsions.[4]

Xingax was carried around by a giant zombie though he could move about quite adequately on his own. He just liked others to think of him as physically helpless.[4] When necessary, he could just float in the air.[5]

He was injured during a fight with the bard Bareris Anskuld but repaired that damage with the oversized shadow-black hand and an eye from the body of the fallen Nighthaunt Ysval. He learned to wield their innate magical abilities such as summoning darkness to shut out the daylight.[6]

Personality

Xingax was incapable of love in both the spiritual and anatomical senses[7] but he found the alien matter of sexuality intriguing as well as repugnant.[8]

He saw himself as inventor, sage, artist, thus detested fighting at the front of an army.[6]

When his powers were temporarily crippled by the spellplague, Xingax gladly returned to his task of inventing necomantic spells rather than spending his time at Szass Tam's side on the battle-field.[9]

Background

His mother's husband once tore him from her womb.[10] If his mother had carried him to full term he would have been a demigod.[2]

Xingax spent his existence primarily in the Abyss.[4]

History

In 1375 DR, Xingax established an undead manufactory in a an imposing stronghold located in the foothills of the Thaymount[11] and raised an army of powerful, sentient undead creatures, types of undead that became extinct long ago known and bred others altogether new.[10] His mission was to conquer Thay with that army.[12] One of his major "achievements" was to turn Tammith Iltazyarra into a special type of vampire. He proudly referred to her as his "daughter".[13]

In 1385 DR, he was slain by Bareris and Tammith during their attack on his fortress.[14]
