The zekyl (plural zekylyn; feminine zebeyl, plural zebylyn)[2] or halfshadow dragon drow, were an offshoot of the drow race.[3]

AbilitiesEdit

A zekyl had the abilities of a drow and that of a half-dragon of shadow dragon patronage. Their drow blood gave them a natural dexterity but unlike normal drow, their dragon blood erased their drow’s physical frailty and made them stronger and their already keen mind sharper and personality stronger.[4]

Them being drow gave them protection against magic that specifically tried to mess with their will, including an immunity against sleep, and also against magic in general. Their dragon side provided them not only an outright immunity against being paralysed but protected them also from physical attacks.[4]

They were the owners of darkvision as well as low-light vision and could cast dancing light, faerie fire and darkness like any other drow, furthermore they owned the ability to breathe life sapping energy against their foes. They didn’t necessarily need weapons because their claws and bite already were usable as one.[4]

As mentioned, a Zekyl was a version of half- shadow dragon drow and had all abilities of a half-dragon and of a drow.[4] They had an immunity against life-sapping effects and a lesser version of the shadow dragon's breath weapon that caused a life-sapping effect. Their distinctive feature was a pair of wings on their back that allowed them to fly faster than they could move on land; normally, only half-dragons of species larger than drow could have wings.[4][5]

A Zekyl had a predisposition for the roguish arts.[3]

HistoryEdit

Zekyl was the name of the half-dragon offspring of Clan Jaezred's shadow dragons and the drow of Chaulssin, who were enslaved by the dragons. In 634 DR, the dragons were overthrown.[6]

In 734 DR, the now-free citizens of Chaulssin escaped to the Plane of Shadow to evade the armies of Menzoberranzan, who were bent on killing them for being heretics. On the Plane of Shadow, they were part of the founders of Chaul'mur'ssin. They learned of a way to divide their dragon and drow lineages, leading to the creation of the race of the drow-dragon. They returned in a meaningful number to Toril in 1136 DR.[6]

In 1372, the majority of the zekyl lived in Chaulssin[7] and formed the majority of the Jaezred Chaulssin's membership by a large margin.[8]
